Artist Statement and Biography

The use of fibers and rhythmic stitching, weaving, and folding defines my work. While it honors the legacy of women, mixing multiple substrates together to create one object, or a series of works, is integral to this chapter of storytelling. 

 

Kristin Beck’s work is influenced by the vibrant culture of her native South Florida. Her use of bold colors, recurring patterns, and strong lines reflect the energy of the subtropics. Her most recurring theme is humor, which leaves its mark on many pieces from her handmade zines to paintings to mixed media pieces. A goal for Beck is to bring a smile to her audience, which allows people to interact with art even when it cannot be touched.
